One of our greatest passions, aside from Capoeira, is community service. We have been working with organizations in the Gainesville and Alachua communities. We are excited to announce our latest partnerships!
Every week Mestrando Mico teaches Capoeira at the SWAG Family Resource Center in the South West area of Gainesville . "SWAG is a grassroots organization whose goal is to address the needs of the community by connecting individuals and families to services and resources through advocacy and from agency and community partners." Students from grades 5th through 8th learn the Martial Art along with the responsibilities that come with being a good capoeirista!
ACL Gainesville also participated in Alachua Heart Association's Annual Heart Walk on September 19, 2015. Professor Mico warmed up all the walkers with some great Capoeira music and moves! So inspiring to see so many walkers who are passionate about health and fitness!
Every week Mestrando Mico volunteers his time and teaches Capoeira at Reichert House in Gainesville. "The Reichert House is an after school program designed for youth who are in need of assistance in making the transition from adolescence to adulthood. The Reichert House offers a combination of discipline, work, and social and recreational activities which foster a balanced environment for those enrolled." Capoeira aligns itself with Riechert House's principles. To learn and improve in capoeira you need work and discipline. The music, art form, and dance offer a social and recreational atmosphere for students.
We offer two free community Capoeira classes every week on Friday and Sunday through Gainesville's Parks and Recreation Department. Fridays focus on ages 15+ and Sundays 9-14. Subscribe to our Facebook Page for times and dates. Weekly capoeira classes exposes the Gainesville community to the inclusive nature of Capoeira. The backdrop of Depot Park for these classes provides a perfect environment for community, friendship, and capoeira!
